How to develop a blogging strategy
The reality of blogging is that most blogs grind to a halt after a few months, very few bloggers continue to blog for years on end. They maybe run out of things to say, get discouraged by the little money their blog generates for the effort they put in, or they failed to build a community.
In some ways, the concept of blogging is flawed since most bloggers tend to gravitate to becoming readers of their favourite bloggers and neglecting their own blog. The popular blog is a fun place to hang out with interesting new posts to look forward to and a hive of activity in the comments.
So with this in mind, you can plan your blogging strategy with realistic goals. The most important goal in my eyes is to create a valuable resource that even if abandoned, will remain a valuable resource of information for years to come.
For example, plan to rapidly create up to 10 solid posts based around your most important keywords and inter-link these posts together as related posts. You could post one per day and within 2 weeks you would have built the valuable resource site.
And during this time, your enthusiasm is likely to be at it’s highest. So push yourself to write these initial posts before any procrastination or distractions can take you off in another direction.
You will be glad you made this initial push and have something to be proud of. Also, you will have built enough content to be able to rank well for your keywords after some link-building.
Now you can find other, related blogs to go and engage in the comments, to bring your blog to the attention of the community. If you want to sell advertising space on your blog, then you will want to be active in your niche community, so that you can generate more social traffic to your blog and gain subscribers. But, if you are into making money from affiliate Ads, you should be most interested in SEO.
Your blogging strategy will, thus depend on your goals. Is it SEO or social? For SEO you will be after links to your content. One of the best ways to get links from blogs is the comment Luv plugin that some blogs use in the comments. What this does is to place a link back to your latest blog post after you leave an approved comment. So there is no need to use a keyword for your name.
Most blogs have no-follow comment links, but I would still make comments on those blogs. This will demonstrate a natural linking pattern to your blog.
So I hope you got some idea for developing your own blogging strategy from this post.
